Proving the adage that borrowed cars are always faster the 2008 D Street Prepared Ladies Solo National Champion Theresa Condict drove Alex Shchipkov’s 1989 BMW 325i sedan on Hoosier tires right to the head of the pack. New to the national solo scene Theresa calls New England Region SCCA home.
RR: Is this your first attendance at Nationals?
TC: No. This year was my second time attending Nationals.
RR: Is this your first national championship?
TC: Yes!!!
RR: What was your favorite memory of the competition?
TC: I had a lot of fun at the NER (New England Region) BBQ. We ended up having a few guitars lying around and had an informal jam session. It was great seeing how many people from the region made it out to Nationals.
RR: Who has most influenced you?
TC: My dad.
RR: Who inspires you?
TC: A lot of what I have learned about racing has come from my dad. From first teaching me how to drive when I was 16 to teaching me how to drive FAST once I started doing autocross, he has always been there to guide and support me.
RR: Do you have any special pre-race routine, or any superstitions you follow?
TC: No.
RR: Do you have any driving aids or tools you use to help you?
TC: I find that watching a video of me driving the course is very helpful, especially being able to see what my hands are doing. It’s a lot easier to pick out my mistakes afterwards than when I’m actually racing!
RR: What do you think you do differently than your competition?
TC: I try to take any opportunity I can find to race – which means I’ve driven everything from a Honda Civic in H Stock to a Mitsubishi Evolution in BSP. I was also in a karting league this past summer. I think having experience in a variety of different cars definitely helped me improve this summer.
RR: Have you attended any driving school?
TC: Evolution School, Phase 1.
RR: Describe your driving style.
TC: I’ve been told that I drive very smoothly.

RR: What was your first –and favorite autocross car?
TC: The Evo 8 is my first and favorite, though the E30 takes a close second.
RR: If you could change one Solo rule – either for your specific class or in general — what would it be?
TC: I can’t think of anything I would change.
RR: Who would you like to thank for your success?
TC: I’d like to thank Alex Shchipkov for giving me the opportunity to drive his car and helping me to become a better driver. And of course, my dad for supporting my racing habit.
